Haley Heynderickx, Max García Conover – Boars

Haley Heynderickx and Max García Conover reconnect for “What of Our Nature”, their second collaborative album and first full-length together since 2018’s “Among Horses III” EP. Due November 21 via Fat Possum Records, the duo spent a year exchanging songs across the country while reading Woody Guthrie’s work, and that influence runs deep through these ten tracks.

Producer Sahil Ansari captured everything on 2″ tape in a Vermont barn over five days. Recording straight to tape meant they played the album through as a complete work, channelling Guthrie’s approach to folk music. That immediacy comes through in the sound.

“Boars” opens with García Conover’s perspective on meeting Heynderickx for the first time. His words paint vivid rural scenes with lines about crow kings and wild boars, all anchored by references to Woody G himself. The production stays raw and honest, letting the performances breathe.

“Fluorescent Light” aims at commercialism through Heynderickx’s lens. Both tracks show how the pair balance individual songwriting voices while creating something unified. They wrote separately but thought together, trading ideas until the songs found their final shape.

The album marks Heynderickx’s signing with Fat Possum Records.
García Conover brings his sensibilities, while Heynderickx adds her Pacific Northwest perspective.

Recording to tape in Vermont forced quick decisions and honest takes. There’s no hiding behind digital editing when you’re working with analog. What you hear is what they played, imperfections and all. That’s the point.
